JA Business Ethics™
Through hands-on classroom activities, JA Business Ethics™ fosters ethical decision-making in students as they prepare to enter the workforce and global marketplace.
Following participation in the program, students will be able to:
Session Titles and Summaries
Session One: Introduction to Ethics—Ethos Island
Students participate in a simulation designed to introduce ethics and the rationale for ethical standards in an interdependent group.
Session Two: Personal Ethics—Values, Goals, and Choices
Students analyze personal ethical beliefs and evalute personal values and goals. Students begin to make plans for achieving their goals.
Session Three: Ethical Dilemmas—How to Decide?
Students recognize major ethics theories and apply them to scenarios while analyzing their own ethical philosophies.
Session Four: Work Ethics—Ethical Decision-Making
Students explore an ethical decision-making model and evaluate personal decision-making processes.
Session Five: Organizational Ethics
Students review professional duties and potential ethical conflicts in various departments in a business, and participate in a group activity to apply the information to a business.
Session Six: Social Responsibility
Students explore two prevalent, but conflicting, theories of social responsibility in business ethics and compare their values with both theories.
Session Seven: Global Business Ethics—Multinational Issues
Students explore several complex ethical issues found in global business during a role-playing activity. This culminating session incorporates overall program concepts.
Additional program components:
Students participate in the JA Business Ethics Message Board.
Students are encouraged to participate in the JA Business Ethics Contest.
