JUST 1 HOUR A WEEK FOR 5-8 WEEKS AND YOU SHOW STUDENTS THAT
AMERICA WORKS!
Volunteer in a classroom and teach kids how business works!
For an hour or less a week, you can make a difference in
the life of a child as a Junior Achievement 'consultant'.
The new Junior Achievement in-school programs now reach
students in grades K-12. The sequential programs provide
young people with insight into the world of business and
economics as professionals and business leaders share their
time and talents with students.
IT IS IMPORTANT, FUN, EXCITING...AND IT IS WORKING!
Here's how you can become involved. HIGH SCHOOL ECONOMICS:
One observation and eight, 50-minute sessions. By working
in partnership with a high school economics Teacher, business
consultants help students relate economic concepts and business
principles to real-life situations. The Volunteer consultant
brings an external perspective into the classroom to help
students see the practical application of classroom theory.
As a class, students run a mini-company or compete on a
computer pen industry.
Introducing JA CONNECTIONS - our new high school
program that helps students develop the knowledge, skills
and personal characteristics to excel in schools, careers,
and community.
MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAM: One observation and eight, 45-minute
sessions.
The Middle School Programs introduces students to business,
economics, personal finance, and career exploration. Each
grade focuses on a theme: seventh grade - Personal Economics;
eighth grade - Enterprise In Action; and ninth grade - The
International Marketplace. Consultants select from prepared
lesson plans to effectively communicate the relationship
between staying in school and the students' future. Volunteers
show students, as no textbook can how critical education
is and the impact of making good and bad choices. It is
the Volunteerís unique perspective that brings credibility
to these messages.
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PROGRAM: One observation and five,
30-45 minute sessions. The Elementary School Program
demonstrates how economics impacts people's lives as workers,
consumers, and citizens. Seven programs (each grade has
a special theme) span kindergarten through sixth grade.
As students grasp and build on important concepts as they
progress in school, they enhance their understanding of
the world around them and discover how they can positively
affect their own future.
