It is the ability to recognize potential in a young person-innate abilities and special talents-that can take a “usual” life and make it remarkable. JA believes that every child deserves the chance for a “remarkable” future. According to the Alliance for Excellent Education, each year around 1.3 million teens fail to graduate high school. Locally, with nearly one in five students not graduating from high school, educators report the ability for organizations like Junior Achievement to inspire the entrepreneurial spirit in these bright youth to use their typically high levels of creativity to create opportunities for themselves and others, is an opportunity that can change lives. JA SPARK Youth Career & Entrepreneurship Development is a new effort that works with proven education elements combined for the first time in a high-impact formula.  At its core, the initiative introduces JA It’s My Future, JA Career Success and JA Be Entrepreneurial curricula and concepts behind career exploration, soft skill development, entrepreneurial thinking and creation and operation of a business. Community volunteers provide JA Launch Lessons; interactive presentations targeted to inform participants about the many career cluster choices as well as paths toward success.  Additionally participants will be provided with JA Job Shadow experiences; a visit to a professional work environment and an opportunity for them to gain insight into how to find and keep a fulfilling career.

Its alignment with schools, where the organization is seen as a primary external partner, provides texture to the lessons being learned. As the students who will participate are only a few years away from entering the workforce, the time is right to launch this initiative that will provide direction, inspiration, and a focus on a complete education.
