TRADITIONAL (WEEKLY VISITS)

Training:
1 hour, scheduled at your convenience

Prep Time:
30-60 minutes prior to each visit to the classroom

Volunteer Time:
30-55 minutes, generally once-a-week, for 5-12 weeks depending on the chosen program

The weekly Junior Achievement® program takes place in a child's classroom, during which volunteers present one of JA®'s proven financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship programs to a K-12 classroom on a weekly basis, coordinating the schedule with the teacher. Volunteers and teachers work together to mutually arrange the required number of sessions, taking into account the classroom schedule and volunteer's work schedule.

 

JA IN A DAY (ONE DAY VISIT)

Training:
1 hour, scheduled at your convenience

Prep Time:
2-5 hours prior to the JA in a Day event

Volunteer Time:
4-5 hours. The teacher will be in the classroom at all times. Lunch and other breaks will be taken according to the normal classroom schedule

The JA in a Day program takes place in a child's classroom, during which volunteers present Junior Achievement curriculum to students in kindergarten through eighth grade in a one-day format. JA staff works directly with the school to arrange an event date. The volunteers cover all lessons in one visit and can teach in pairs.

JA JOB SHADOW™ (ONE DAY VISIT)

Training:
None

Prep Time:
2-3 hours to be completed prior to your scheduled event date

Visit/Volunteer Time: 
5-6 hours of agenda items to be divided and covered by participating JA Job Shadow™ volunteers

Together with your colleagues at your workplace, you can give our region's young people a look into a possible career for a day. JA Job Shadow™ prepares high school students to be entrepreneurial thinkers and encourages them to develop personal strategies to pursue lifelong learning and career opportunities. Through one day, on-site experiences, students learn practical business skills such as dressing and speaking professionally, being on time, working as part of a team, and providing effective customer service. These real world skills are enhanced with classroom lessons and follow-up activities.
